The Countryside Management Association (CMA) wanted to honour Gordon as our Honorary President, so in 2016 we started to present 'Barney' the barn owl trophy to the best project or initiative making an outstanding contribution to countryside or urban greenspace management. It has been awarded annually ever since and Gordon was always keen to hear about the various projects put forward.

It was always 'extra special' when Gordon was able to make the presentation personally.

'Barney' will continue to fly around the country and proudly roost somewhere in a ranger service office for the year, as a reminder of the inspiration and passion that Gordon shared with, and passed on to, rangers everywhere.
