inspiration

I only knew Gordon in his last eight years of life but he had time to leave his mark on me and many memories. Always a friend, it was my privilege to know Gordon.

Mostly it was over a coffee, often in front of Lea House but perhaps the most memorable was a trip to Manchester to join an Extinction Rebellion protest.  Gordon was never one to be behind the times. Gordon wore his most outrageous shirt and we took the train from Edale. A bus ride in Manchester took us to Deansgate to join the protest.  It was less a protest than a personal witness to the belief of the importance to stop climate change and save our wonderful world.

I always thought that I talked to everyone and anyone, but Gordon was in his element engaging with people young and old alike. Talking about climate change and relating it to his wide experiences with nature across the world and the importance of protecting it. After a little lunch and more listening and talking we made away back to Piccadilly Station to get the train back Edale and Gordon’s beloved house.

Goodluck Gordon on your last journey, I am sure a light like yours will never be extinguished.
