I feel so lucky to have grown up in Edale with Gordon living next door. Seeing him sitting outside his house was always a part of coming home. He made our corner so much more cosy and sunny with his constant little acts of welcome and friendship. He helped me to grow up loving the natural world and understanding how to respect it and keep it thriving. He always made anyone who came to the village feel safe and supported and I know he was a big part of helping my mum settle in and making our family at home. He was also who gave us our cats! His Christmas Eve parties really made the holiday special and I'll remember them all my life for their warmth and merriment. But all year round Gordon exemplified what it meant to be a good neighbour. I'll really miss seeing him in the village, and I will always be grateful to have known him and learned from him.
